1st July 2025 - The Courage To Go Against The Grain

Season #3

Hello, beautiful soul and welcome to today's takeaway. So this weekend I went to my brother's wedding. It was absolutely phenomenal. It was probably the most hype wedding I have ever been to. It was full of music. There were four different DJs, dancing galore, lots of Caribbean Jamaican foods and lots of dance and vibes, like pure vibes. But on the way back, James and I, we decided that we were going to walk back from the venue to the train station the next morning. Now, we could have booked a taxi, we didn't need to walk, but on the drive in, we just noticed how beautiful the country lane was and how beautiful some of the housing and buildings were that we drove past. And on the way there, we said, oh, maybe we should walk back in the morning instead. And so it was about an hour and 20 minutes-ish walk back from the venue to the train station, and some of it's along country winding lanes.

(01:02)

So in the morning we were getting ready to leave, we're all having breakfast together and we're getting ready to leave. And our auntie had said, if you booked your taxi, and I said, no, we're going to walk. We're going to walk to the station. She was like, what? She then voiced her concern over the narrow Rin roads and no path and how it was country roads and people drive down there crazily and that we should be careful walking and are we sure it's safe? And really voiced her concern from a place of love and care. And we were just like, no, it's fine. We were used to walking country roads. It's absolutely fine. We'll be fine. And so we set off and we started walking. And as we were walking, some people that had left the venue earlier that were coming back just helping tidy up and clear up drove past us and they said, do you want to lift back?

(01:49)

Do you want to lift? And we were like, no, no, we're happy walking. And then again, somebody else who was leaving the venue drove past us and asked us if we would live back. We were like, no, we're okay. We're happy walking. But there was a part of me in those requests, in those moments from my auntie, from the passersby that offered us a lift that felt almost guilty, was starting to think maybe we are doing something wrong or dangerous. Started to feel like we should accept the requests there to give us a lift because perhaps we were not showing gratitude for that. And I realized here, even though we continued to walk and even though we continued to stick to our course and to our plan and what felt aligned for us, these are the kinds of moments in our lives where we have made an aligned decision, a decision that's excited us via sacral or a decision that's felt intuitively right?

(02:43)

For those of you who are splenic beings or whatever it may be for your place of alignment, but you've made a decision that you are content within your soul and heart, but other people have opinions on or voice judgments on, or perhaps like I say, just out of the kindness of their heart, express a different alternative route that they would like to support you with. And we can soon change our minds or out of obligation or out of fear, or out of any of those disempowered states can change our minds. How often does this happen for people in business? You're happily going along executing the marketing plan that you've put out there for yourself, that you've set your mind and heart on for yourself. And then someone comes and says, did you know that you could do this a quicker way, a better way? Or do you know what, you probably shouldn't be doing it like that.

(03:35)

You should do this. And after hearing this, sometimes it's just once. But sometimes it's because that person seems to have more authority or more knowledge or more years in business than you do that you start to question your direction. You start to question your choices, and you start to really lose that trust in your own inner guidance system. And so like I say, just this experience reminded me of how much strength it can take to come back to your own personal power over and over again, no matter what people are saying outside of you or around of you, to really be secure in the decisions you are making and to trust your authority and to be okay to kind of hold space for those feelings that you're noticing coming up for you, but still being able to be in your ground and to be in your power and to be in your trust for that.

(04:31)

Because not everybody else's opinions or experiences have to dictate your own. So we had a lovely walk. We enjoyed the walk. We had talks over old architecture and building structures. We saw some gorgeous views and sites and country lanes and all sorts of lovely things. We had conversations about life and had a moment of connection, just us two. And it was such a beautiful, beautiful walk. And had we have accepted that lift, it would've been over in minutes. Had we listened to the fears of others, we may not have taken that walk. We may not have had that time for connection and all of the beautiful things that we did experience in the hour and 20 minutes. So this is my reminder to you that your alignment is everything. Your personal alignment is going to lead you to beautiful things. You have to have the strength and the courage to say no to the things that aren't aligned for you, and to continue to move forward with that.
